The 1972 (yes, 50 years ago) report Limits to Growth’ Should have started a massive shift from growth to sustainability, but it didn’t, and still hasn’t. The more recent evidence that climate damage is increasing should rule out growth as a possibility.

Here is an update on ‘Limits’ by competent authorities, Rupert Read and Sandy Irvine.

Intriguingly, also circa 1972. A basic income (UBI) (though not by that name) was proposed, but never used due to a change of government.

My UBI is an attempt not to need growth, which has become dangerous. The 1972 version was for the diametrically opposite purpose – to foster growth. Liz Truss seems to be unaware of it.

The answer to the threat of climate breakdown will have to be word-wide, by governments, but Truss and her party are oblivious of anything other than their ideological aims.
