The 1972 (yes, 50 years ago) report Limits to GrowthShould have started a massive shift from growth to sustainability, but it didn’t, and still hasn’t. The more recent evidence that climate damage is increasing should rule out growth as a possibility.

Here is an update on ‘Limits’ by competent authorities, Rupert Read and Sandy Irvine.

Intriguingly, also circa 1972. A basic income (UBI) (though not by that name) was proposed, but never used due to a change of government.

My UBI is an attempt not to need growth, which has become dangerous. The 1972 version was for the diametrically opposite purpose – to foster growth. Liz Truss seems to be unaware of it.

The answer to the threat of climate breakdown will have to be word-wide, by governments, but Truss and her party are oblivious of anything other than their ideological aims.

My weblog is an attempt to show that the UBI could save humanity form Ecological breakdown, but in the wrong hands, it could kill us all.

I’m hoping now Jeremy Hunt is the new Chancellor he will have a better way of doing things. I think he will.

Do not hod your breath. We must reckon with Liz Truss. If Hunt had Truss’s record of U-turns, (He says she is still in charge) there might be hope.
